Other States Where Equal Access Is Allowed and Working Of the 24 states supporting Equal Access, all rank ahead of Alabama except one. Alabama public schools dropped this year from 47th to 48th in the Nation. New Mexico is the only Equal Access state that ranks lower, and Equal Access was just added there recently. Top ranked schools are known for being open-minded and thinking outside the box. We believe it is time for Alabama to think outside the box in this area and others, and start doing everything they can to improve their schools and school-community relationships. 15 states are currently proposing legislation for equal access!!!

2) Colorado - legislation passed
3) Florida - legislation passed
4) Idaho - legislation passed
5) Illinois - legislation passed, must be partially enrolled
6) Iowa - legislation passed
7) Maine - legislation passed
8) Massachusetts - allowed by athletic association, no legislation necessary
9) Michigan - legislation passed, must be partially enrolled
10) Minnesota - legislation passed
11) Nebraska - legislation passed, must be partially enrolled
12) Nevada - legislation passed
13) New Hampshire - legislation passed
14) New Mexico - legislation passed
15) North Dakota - legislation passed
16) Ohio - legislation passed, must be partially enrolled
17) Oregon - legislation passed
18) Pennsylvania - legislation passed
19) Rhode Island - allowed by athletic association, no legislation necessary
20) South Dakota - allowed by athletic association, no legislation necessary
21) Utah - legislation passed
22) Vermont - legislation passed
23) Washington - legislation passed
24) Wyoming - legislation passed
